SIM Heritage
Our heritage
SIM was started on November 28, 1964 as a not-for-profit membership institution with the mission of developing Singapore’s human resource pool.
In the early years SIM offered crash courses in management disciplines for senior managers and supervisory personnel.
In 1973, it launched its first formal management education programme – Diploma in Management Studies. Gradually the Institute increased its portfolio to include a wide range of diploma, bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes in partnership with more than 11 established universities worldwide.
SIM was selected by the Ministry of Education in 1992 to run the accredited Open University Degree Programme in Singapore, which was renamed SIM Open University Centre in 2002.
In January 2005, the Ministry of Education granted approval for a SIM University, with the first student intake in January 2006.
